I don't have a lap-top, what is the bare minimum i can get away with to tune car? Pry buy a Pimp in the future, will one of those little notebooks with windows starter in it work? Only used for the car.

I can't find any exact info but I know of people using Windows 98 computers with 256mb ram and a 366 mhz processor. I'd suggest at least 1000+mhz though to ensure it will datalog and do VE analyze properly. I don't have any reason to believe a notebook wouldn't work.
One thing to look at is if you can find a laptop with a serial port, it will allow for direct connection to the PIMP without a USB adapter.

I finally have a dedicated computer for that now. Its an old Dell D610 and you can get either a stripped one or refurb on ebay fairly cheap. A huge plus is its dimensions/weight, it has what seems like an odd shaped screen thats too tall but it helps see the megalogviewer. It also has 4 USBs, an old com cable ect. The one for tuning is a 40Gb hard drive, 1Mb ram.
I'm not saying "buy this" because by todays standards the computer is junk but its perfect for what it does. Maybe you can find something similar and cheap.

I'm using a $300 netbook on my megasquirt setup and i can drive for a bit then it just goes "off line" randomly in TunerStudio. Not sure what the issue is?
Also my LCDash runs all day when connected to my megasquirt by the USB cable so thats why i know its got to be the netbook.

Typically the "offline" issue is related to the tuning cable or more specifically, the USB adapter if you're using one.

Is there a certain USB adapter you use? the only other things i was thinking of doing is upgrading my Megasquirt to MS3 so i can go direct usb or getting the adapter a DIYautotune.com that mounts on the board instead of the serial port.
