The 85' and 86' SVO's used fog lights for one switch and Premium/Regular fuel for the other switch.
I think the 84' SVO was the only year that used the amplifier switch.

Ecu is different for the 85.5-86 SVO's as well. Turbo is a T3 on all of them. Late cars (85.5-86) also got dual exhaust. I believe the early SVO's also had 30lb injectors while the late cars had 35's.

did all svo's come with large vams? i mean if it came with 30lbs injectors would'nt it use a small vam?
on a side note is it true the svo ecu's run at 7.5 hz or something and the la3 runs at 12 hz and thats why the la3 idles better and stuff? i'm not ecu literate but does that mean the la3 is a "faster" processor...or does the la3 just have different timing maps...too many beers haha

The L series ECU's are a more advanced processor and are "faster" as you put it. They all had the big vam, even the early cars with 30lb injectors.
The 85+ SVO's also got dark grey trim rather than black and an optional 3rd brake light in the wing. The very early 84's and 85.5+ also got the SVO decals on the fenders. The 84's had piping on the seats and the other years didn't and also got the "regular" T5 with the 4.03 first and .86 OD. The rest of the SVO's got the 3.50 first and .78 OD gear. 84's also got 3.45 rear gears while the rest of the cars got 3.73's.

Most of the differences have been covered so far. But here are a couple more.
'84 and '85 have the smaller cam (0.390") vs. the 85.5 and 86 larger cam (0.400") lift. Also, the '84 had an "inline" intake vs. the "square" intake of the later models.
Also the later years have a A/R ratio on the turbo of 0.48 vs. the earlier 0.63, were water and oil cooled vs. the early models relying on only oil cooling.
The faster processor is prob. why the LA3 idles better, but it is from a TC and it requires a different wiring setup. The PE computers from the later SVOs are a plug in system and are nearly as good. The LA2 is almost the same as the LA3 at less money.
The 86 had a brake light incorporated into the spoiler.
Like Stinger said, the T5's were "world class" in the '85 and up models. Also the diff ratio in the '84 was 3.45 vs. 3.75 in the later ones.
'84 SVO's had different valving in the front struts, which was a pretty minor change.
