a friend of mine has a mega squirt 2 that he bought off a guy and it was working fine until the other day and now it wont connect and the fuel pump runs constantly... is there anywhere/anyone that he could send it to to reflash it or fix it? he talked to DIY auto tune and they were helpful till they found out he didn't buy it directly from them... once he told them that they wouldnt help him neither he or I feel comfortable doing a reflash or any other repairs for that matter...
thanks for any help!

What are the origins of the ECU? Is it something someone bought as a kit and assembled or is it a pre-assembled kit, or is it a pre-assembled ECU from a guy in New Jersey? Is this ECU for a Mustang or what? Any idea what version of MS2 board it is?

we are not sure if it was bought as a kit and assembled or pre-assembled... can you tell by looking? it is for a mustang, but I don't remember what version it is... I will find out and report back, the guy he bought it from was running it in a V-8 mustang, my friend is running it in a 2.3 turbo mustang. the case of it has a DIY autotune sticker on it but the guy from DIY said anyone could have put that on

Some pics may show what it is, especially pics inside.

That was most likely purchased directly from DIY.
That is a VERY old MS2 extra firmware. Prior to the 3.3.x series of codes, there were some communications "issues" that could result in firmware corruption. This is exacerbated by running USB to serial convertors, particularly ones that are not using the FTDI chipset.
Did this happen with a laptop connected, or did it simply "not work" one day?

Well he said it was working fine, he took it out to put a bigger map sensor in and something for launch control I think and not long after he did this he started having intermittent connection issues then the last time he messed with it he said his tune was all different, not by his doing, then all the sudden the fuel pump ran constantly and it wouldn't connect at all, he is using a f.... USB adapter like u mentioned not the prolific one

Send it to some one for repair if you haven't had any luck with a firmware reflash.

That's doesn't quite sound right. I would be willing to look at it. A guy named Peter Florence does alot of ecu repair as well (seach MSExtra). I would be willing to bet he did something when he added the extra stuff.

yeah that's what we both think because it worked fine until he made the changes... is it upgradeable at all? I would be more than happy to send it to you for repair if ur interested but I know you are super busy.... I don't know enough about it to mess with it... that's why I bought a pimp! and love it!! he is now toying around with the idea of buying one but it depends on what its gonna take to fix what he has

What does he actually want it to do? Anything is "possible," but I get fairly irritated if adding much as it becomes difficult to make mechanically reliable in my opinion (and I charge accordingly).

really he would be happy just to have it working again.... with working launch control. that's what he was trying to do when he took it out and since he had it out he put a bigger map sensor in... I will ask and see if there was anything else he wanted
