I have an 89 ranger with a 2.3t swap. Ron francis harness and basically stock merkur engine with large vam and lb3 ecu. Also has a fmic. Just got it running and when it's cold it runs pretty rough but when I rev it up it smooths out. But when it's hot it idles very high and everytime I touch the throttle it starts to die until I let off. I tried moving the vam door while it was running and it just wanted to die.
Ok so i finally got around to checking out the codes and what i got was. 81, 83, 84, 85, 88. but im pretty sure the issue is my fuel pump because that thing is screaming way louder than it ever has. i cant check the fuel pressure yet but i ordered an new 255 anyways so hopefully that fixes the issue.
Changed the fuel pump and fuel filter and is running the same. It's definitely over fueling. I tried to drive it and it sputters and tries to die and as soon as it gets close to boost it just falls on its face so hard it basically dies and smells like gas. Ran the codes when I got back and they were the same as above. Maybe my fpr is bad?
Ok today I did a compression check and they were all within 10% of 120. Which I know isn't great but probably not the issue. Also put new plugs in. Old ones didn't look bad just looked like it was running rich. Then I put on a factory turbo discharge pipe to make sure my fmic isn't leaking. Truck fired right up and idled great. Let it run for a little bit then tried diving it. It immediately died and when I tried starting it again it would run poorly like in the video I posted.
I finally got around to working on this thing and I found out that my fuel pressure gauge had been stuck at 40psi and wasn’t actually reading correctly. I took my entire fuel system out and found that my fuel pump, fuel rail and all my fuel lines were clogged with rust and gunk. So I went ahead and got a fuel cell and new fuel lines so hopefully will have that together soon and will update on how it runs after the new fuel system.
