Reaching out to those who have done harness swaps (and you too, Shannon, if you'd like to reply).
So I have gone as far as I can go with my own research and pondering, I now need some guidance from experience.
I am in a position to replace the 33 year old engine harness in my '84 SVO. This upgrade/improvement will be closely followed (about a year or so) with a PIMPx ECU (currently the car has an LA3)
The question I have is kind of the PIMP PM-65 vs Stock MG-65, and then the winner of that vs the Telorvek MG-60.
First round of questions:
Should I wait and just get the PM-65 harness when I get my PIMPx?
Or
Would it be good just to get the MG-65 harness to allow for a stock ECU to be added back in at a later date (which will allow me to enjoy a new harness now while I wait for PIMP)?
I know the PIMP harness does not have several stock connectors. From what I have observed from the installation guides, those are the EGR, VAM, Knock, BAP, and VIP self-test. My question is based on the thought of "better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it" as far as the connectors are concerned. Please, before you laugh me out of this forum of "HAHAHA!!! Why would you EVER want to go back to stock after swapping to PIMP?", I am more or less thinking of a "what if?" kind of situation. (problem with the PIMP, someone after me want to go a different direction (heaven forbid this car ever leaves me))
Bottom line for this line of questioning: It is just a matter of personal preference to not have the extra unused connections in the engine bay after the swap or is there some other benefit to the PM-65?
Second (and final) round of questions:
Overall, what are the major benefits to doing the Telorvek harness? Is it worth the trouble of having to run the individual leads for each component? How hard is it to hide the terminal box in a stock interior?
Thanks for any insight you guys can provide!
