Clean cars! Those wire wheel hubcaps have got to go though...and the tires they are attached to are way too narrow to handle the 2.3T

Funny, everyone says that about those wire wheel covers. Once we get everything shaken out we plan to buy some better wheels/tires.

We are still trying to get the hatch to run right. It has an open rear with 3:73 gears and can spin the one tire effortlessly. We will get the Turbo Coupe 8.8 with 3:55 traction lok in there later.

Here is the latest picture of the hatch. We have it running good enough for my son to drive now.
The side 1/4 windows are reproductions since the orignials were shot.

Another. We bought the hatch as a non-running 2.3 auto car. Lots of dents, faded peeling paint last summer. We did all the body work and prep and had a pro spray the base and clear as a side job. The 2.3T 5 speed was from a ragged out '88 Turbo Coupe donor car we happen to see for sale on the side of the road one day shortly after buying the Mustang. We did not plan on the turbo swap but got lucky finding the donor car and getting the whole car for less then it would have been to fix the 2.3 NA auto. The hatch is a North Carolina car and is rust free. It is still nice and blue on the underside. Interior is very nice too. My son found the car on craigs list 10 minutes from my house. The tail pipe is an off the shelf 2 1/4" Walker Dynomax mandrel bent pipe for an '88 GT. www.rockauto has them for $32. We modified the hanger to get it to tuck up there tight. We had to do some work at the muffler so get it to line up correctly. Since we went over budget on the paint/body work a good exhaust isn't going to happen at this point.

Here is how it looked before we started blocking it down.

another. From what we could see the car had one repaint some time during its life. All panels were original and the car had never been wrecked.

Nasty old sun faded paint. Yeah I had my son sand that spoiler down by hand.

We blocked the car down by hand. We replaced the driver's side fender with a good used original because we didn't want to deal with a dent it had.

Fixed all the major dents and filled in all the little ones we could see to prep for PPG epoxy primer.
We used Evercoat Rage Gold body filler. Not cheap but that is no place to skimp. We did work the dents the best we could to minimize the filler. The thinner the filler the more durable it will be over time.

After many many many hours of blocking, spraying high build primer, filling minor imprefections etc here it is right before it was sent out to get painted. Man were we worn out after all that.
One of our goals was to learn how to get a car show car straight so an excessive amount of effort was put into the prep.
We used Utech 2k High Build Primer. Good stuff.
