That's not taking into account the exhaust, radiator, motor mounts and all the miscellaneous things I have to do to prep the engine.

Radiator and motor mounts can be re-used if they aren't trashed.
Also remember you're going to triple or even quadruple the power (depending on mods). That may help make the cost not seem so outrageous.

Radiator is about 6 months old but its the 2.3 radiator, not the 4.0. Mounts are gone. Still have to buy a better clutch. I already have the 98+ one piece aluminum driveshaft and 8.8 disk brake TracLoc rear end. Engine is suppose to be here by next Friday so I guess I'm all in.

A 2.3 radiator is a 2.3 radiator. Turbo radiators are no different. So I wouldn't worry about that particular detail. Just put a good electric fan on it.

Finally bought a motor today. It's got a bunch of stuff on it. Not sure of year but has wiring harness with a PK1 pcm, 35# injectors, Caterpillar 671126 turbo??? Humongous external wastegate mounted to a tube welded to the stock exhaust manifold, Manual boost controller. Drove the car before motor was pulled and ran very well. Has the VAM but not sute if its a small ot large. Bought the entire assembly for $200. Now I lost my path as I'm not sure what this thing is

That's an 84-86 Thunderbird/Cougar auto trans ECU so that's likely where it came from. Should be small VAM and green top 30lb injectors. Interesting match for a huge turbo, that's for sure. Hopefully it's actually a turbo engine and not turbo stuff on a non-turbo engine. Sounds like a good price either way.

Well having taken a quick look at it last night. It definitely has brown top injectors. The upper intake doesn't have the 2.3 turbo on it. Its just plain. The motor was in a automatic XR4TI. Not sure how else to tell if it's an original turbo motor.

If the oil return line goes into a boss on the side of the block it's likely a turbo engine. If it goes to the oil pan it's not. If it was in an XR4Ti then it's likely a turbo engine though. I'd be more concerned about which engine it was if it was in a turbo swap application that wasn't factory turbo (like a Ranger or Mustang LX).

Probably going to start resealing this motor next weekend then just drop it in the Ranger to check all fitment. Im planning on purchasing the manifold flip kit tomorrow but since this turbo isn't a listed option im not sure what to select on the menu of turbo options. Also gonna bite the bullet and buy the Pimpx and the harness. The harness that came with the motor has butt connectors all over it and I didn't realize how tiny the opening is in the VAM wow...

The turbo selection for the flip kit is only for the oil lines. I'd select the T3/T4 option as that's the most "universal".
Yes, the VAM is a real turd both in terms of flow and performance.
The stock injectors will be maxed out basically immediately (and they are 35 years old) so getting injectors with the PiMPx is a good idea.

With the the exhaust manifold flip kit I'm going to need 2 exhaust manifold gaskets correct? Which gaskets do you recommend? Not a fan of the crushable Felpros or similar gasket.

If your manifold is machined flat then you don't have to run any gaskets. No gaskets were ran between manifold and head from the factory.

So far I've purchased quite a list from you guys. Pimpx ecu, Pimpx harness, 60# injectors, FPR, upper and lower intake stock orientation, manifold flip kit with hoses. Now im debating whether or not to build or buy a intercooler kit. I don't see any kits you guys sell for a flipped Ranger setup. Do you sell anything that could possibly be a close fit?

Rangers have really short noses and cramped space in front of the radiator so I believe all of our options are too large.

I figured. I have an intercooler with both inlet and outlet on the same side. Probably going to attempt to run this one.
