We are now starting to put the Mustang pieces on our turbo engine. We pulled the beautiful cast aluminum pan off the N/A automatic engine to put on the turbo engine. We noticed some mounting differences between the two pans. The Mustang Cast Aluminum pan has a boss where it was bolted to the auto trans. We looked at the bell housing of our T5 and it doesn't look like there would be any clearance problems. I've read somewhere on the forum to use the Mustang pan, not the Turbo Coupe pan. Am I right on this? Fit Problem I'm not seeing? Thank You, Steve, Molalla Oregon

The cast aluminum pan is a different depth than the steel pan so you can't use it with the turbo oil pump/pickup tube. The easy thing to do is to just use the steel turbo pan.

Thanks Stinger. I am having a blast learning and putting this Turbo Mustang together with my son, it's his first car. I have been in the old car hobby since the '70's and You and your Stinger website are the best I've ever encountered. Thank You. Steve

These cars are indeed a blast to own Steve. I wish you and your son good luck with the project. I was a newbie at this around this time last year, it's amazing what I've learned from Stinger and all the helpful folks in here. Hang out here often enough and you'll be the resident 2.3 turbo pro in your area! If you can, post some pics of what you guys are working on.

If you have a Turbo Coupe oil pan take the oil level sensor out of the side of the oil pan and put a big drain plug in its place. Otherwise it will leak oil because its old and the internal seal in the sensor drys out and lets oil through.

I agree, all the oil level sensors I have seen leaked. Even though they are not listed as compatible, the oil level sensor out of a later year Ranger or Mustang will work. But you shouldn't let you oil get that low anyway. Its better to just check you oil level whenever you stop for gas, or once a week. So I think the plug is a great idea, and its cheaper and easier to do. And yes, sooner or later, that sensor will leak. I'm pretty sure that disconnecting the sensor does not trigger a low oil light. I could be wrong though. If it does trigger a light, then the wires have to be jumped or the bulb needs to be removed.

I cut the wires going to the sensor, no check engine light or other warnings have triggered.

I swapped a turbo coupe engine into an '88 2.3 NA car so it did not have an oil level sensor in it so we put a plug in that hole because it kept leaking oil out of the center of the sensor. Its actually a big oil drain plug for like a truck nothing special and it fit right in there perfectly: Dorman Part #65221

Thanks Guys for the Great Info! I've been looking at that thing sticking out of the pan and wondering what we were going to do with it. We are getting ready to go down to the shop and swap out a bunch of hacked up wiring. I was able to pick up a nice replacement computer harness, injector harness, fuel rail, injectors(wrong type), and a few other smaller harnesses from a great guy on eBay for about 35 dollars.

Are the baffles in the canton 11-900 useful? I do intend to autocross at least 3 times per summer and maybe Watkins Glenn if my car will pass tech without a cage. I have three pans, two NA Mustang and one TC with the aforementioned oil level bung.
Speaking of Oil, when does an old oil cooler need to be replaced? The coolant ports look a little crusty, can I just flush it out grind the exterior down and paint it or should I look for something new?
Also, does this motor have two PCV systems? What is the canister I removed from the block right in front of the oil cooler that connects to the intake Via a 1 way check valve? Is that reusable if I remove the rust and paint it or is that something I should replace as well?

They are certainly as useful as any other oil pan baffle. Whether they are necessary isn't something I can say as it likely intends on how many g's you will pull in the corners.
It only needs to be replaced if it gets filled with debris from a massive engine failure, or if it's leaking internally. They are no longer available so if it's not broke, don't fix it.
It doesn't have two PCV systems. What you removed is the PCV system's block breather canister. It's reusable.
