All in all this project has been a long time coming. I guess it really started about 13 years ago when I got a 1992 LX Mustang for my 16th birthday.
Had about 65,000 miles or so and I drove for about 5 years and took it up to 154,000 miles. Then it started to need some work. I was dumb and bought a 96 GT and put this in the garage to wait for a 5.0 swap one day. Well then I found this site and others talking about the 2.3T and really wanted to do that over the 5.0 build.
Well I have a no debt except my mortgage policy, took me three years to get out of debt, so now the project is rolling much faster so it's been quite slow going as I have been collecting parts. And last November really started working on things.
So here are the plans.
1992 LX Mustang and transplant the motor from an 88 Thunderbird Turbocoupe. Turn up the boost slightly and a Front Mount Intercooler, ran by Stinger's own Pimp ECU and Innovate LC1 Wideband.
Suspension/Drivetrain
V8 brakes, UPR 4 cylinder lowering Springs made by Eibach, Koni STRT Shocks and Struts, UPR C/C Plates, 8.8" rear with 3.73s and trac loc, UPR Upper and Lower Tubular Control Arms, All Bushings replaced with Polyurethane.
Well with sitting in a garage for years comes some added TLC.
Yes that's my 69 GTO sitting to the right there, it comes back to life after the Mustang.
A few progress pics
Motor is currently getting a freshen up
Interior has been stripped to replace carpet and get rid of the slight surface rust on the floor pan.
Pulled the front end to make room for the intercooler and radiator
Refinished some of the parts
Currently have the rear end and gas tank out. To replace all the suspension components. Also cleaning up the surface rust under there and will be coating it for some future protection
Front Suspension is all pulled as well and will go back together once the rear end is done.
Suspension parts
So that's my project for now. Once the suspension is all finished I will then run the car for a bit with the 2.3 N/A to make sure everything is working, as should be, before swapping in the new motor.
Then it will be onto the doing the motor, Pimp install, and lots of prayer that it works.
Have all the cash for the Pimp already saved away, and slowly buying the rest of the parts I need as I go, mainly intercooler piping, BOV and exhaust (guess where those will be ordered from).
So that's my project. Nothing fancy but not looking for anything crazy just a fun car to drive on nice days.
