Well, I had good and bad at the dyno. Made 14 pulls in almost 2 hours. Power was 20-30hp lower than I was expecting. On a positive note it makes right at 300rwhp at stock boost (15psi). Had some odd trends though were power jumped around quite a bit without changing anything. Boost pressure was inconsistent which is the most likely cause of that. Max HP of the day was made at 21psi. Unfortunately I hurt the engine after that run and power dropped off at higher boost. I drove it home though so it wasn't catastrophic. I'll post more info when they email me the dyno graphs and I verify the engine damage is what I think it is.

Hopefully damage is not bad. Looking forward to seeing those graphs.

No, not really. I haven't touched it since I drove it back from the dyno. I know what happened and what I'll do about it, just been taking a little break from working on it.
A rod bearing started knocking after the dyno session. I'm going to do a couple tests to verify before I yank the engine but I'm 100% sure it's rod knock. I think it was failing on at least the last 3 dyno pulls. The question I don't have an answer to is WHY it started knocking. I won't know that until I tear it apart. It was either from detonation early in the tuning process when I had boost control issues (30+psi on pump gas) and it slowly deteriorated from then or it was from when the cam seized up and took out the turbo, sending a bunch of aluminum into the oil in the process. This could have damaged all of the rod/main bearings and it was only a matter of time before they failed.
Once I get around to pulling the engine, I'll replace it with a "built" shortblock with Crower rods and such. I've got the built engine already (sitting in the dragster chassis), just need to put some new gaskets/seals in it since it's been sitting for a few years. Then I'll paint it and drop it in.

Sorry to hear about that. Glad you stopped running it before something really bad happened. Now that the car is getting more sorted out the next block should last a good long time.

That is the hope. I also hope that the bearings are why it seemed to be down 20-40hp from where it should be and was also inconsistent from pull to pull.

Should be interesting to see what the bearings look like once its apart.

Good question. As soon as sales slow down so I have time to mess with it. This doesn't mean I want you guys to stop buying things lol!

FYI, the "new" SVO engine has been pulled from the Dragster and once I get some bolts for the engine stand, I'll mount it to the stand and inspect the bearings and put some new gaskets and such on it and then it should be ready to go in (after I swap all the parts off the current SVO engine and onto this new one).

Well, hit another snag. This is the supposedly "good" engine that I bought years ago and hadn't ever ran (other than hearing it run before buying it): Pulled apart a 2.3T today and found this: All: Front Main: 2nd Main: Center: 4th: Rear Main: Center Crank Journal: Other Journals: #2 & #3 Rod Bearings:

oil starvation, but the cause can be of many things . but a nice rebuild will help with the power.
