Wow it never stops. Today i was hauling down 287 in new jersey. When i got of i noticed a tingining noise almost like a spark from under the drivers side, well by time i got home the tinging noise got really bad. I am guessing it is the trans. I have a spec 2+clutch in it. When i try to accelerate it makes a nasty almost like a detonation noise. The car vibrates like crazy. However it shifts fine. Any thoughts.(rear mabye) How can i pin this problem? Thank everyone

no It havent, It seems like that problem went away after addidng some bars leak. I am going to change it this friday. I can garantee (this) is not in the engine. It is definetly the trans,or the starter .by the way my cluctch has about 10,000 miles on it. It is almost like something is hanging of of the cluctch. I only here the tingling noise at take of or under say 30 mph.

2nd day - well I didnt work today, but I drove the car to work 4 miles and the noise (ticking sound like a cooling catalytic converter a better way to put it than in the first post) is still there but now where near as bad. I am getting a decent amount of virbrations at low speed pretty muuch all the time. When i put the clutch in it goes away. I also noticed when i take of from 1st, It makes like a screething noise the second before it starts to accelerate as the clutch engauges, As far as shifting it shifts and changes gears just like the day i assembled it . Everything seems to be good with that. I am starting to think it is a bad clutch mabye. Has anyone experienced any issues with a spec stage 2+ clutch kit.

Might have broke a strap on the pressure plate. I did it once and it acted similar.
I really hope you don't end up with a "told ya so" moment when you pull the head...finding a grooved crater in the block.

I will take care of this tommorrow.Along with the stock vane air. I didnt forget i just had no choice been really busy working, good thing you keep reminding me cause i wouldve probably blew it of longer. Thank god it is friday. SO yeah I guess it is safe to drive to it goes if it is the pressure pate. I will be converting back to vane air from mass air tommorrow. So if anyone has a color wire diagram for the vane air as i cant remember please post it.

SO yeah I guess it is safe to drive to it goes if it is the pressure pate. What are you saying here? Are you saying it is safe to drive it until the PP blows? If so, you must not like your feet/legs very much. It's not pretty when it comes apart, flies through the floor, takes off your feet, goes through the dash, out the glass, and over the top of your car...you wouldn't be the first to have it happen

There is a difference between a clutch being worn out and failing to grip and a pressure plate that has a strap broke. There are 3 straps on a pressure plate and they hold the diaphragm to the surface. The other two break from the vibration or rotational forces and it is no longer attached to anything and is free to fly.
You "should" be able to look through the hole in the bellhousing and see if the strap is broke.

Alright today i tried to find the problem. No good I am wondering if it can be the rear. The car kind of jerks at take of, When i finally get going i hear like a tingling, screeaching noise from I swear it is the trans but not sure. I also noticed i have been hearing a almost like a rear dust sheild vibrate evertime i hit the smallest bump.. When i jacked up the car and engaged the clutch and reved it and whent through the gears I or freinds cant here nothing over the exaust. Almost like it is not there without load, then i went ahead and took of the tires., WHata i found is that if i punch the tire i hear that rattle (thought i twas dust cover) BUt isnt.it is coming from the rear i think. IF i pull the rotor there is about a quarter inch of in or out play in or out without the caliper on.. I do also notice some heavy gear oil above the rear,. I replaced the seal a year ago and it is not leaking from there. When i got all done fixing nothing I went home parked the car and now I noticed i can put the stick through all the gears without engageing the clutch very easy as if nothing is there. I dont remember this. beer please!

There is a pretty significant amount of in/out play in these rears as they use a c clip to locate the axle. It's not 1/4" but it's certainly 1/8" or more. It will also typically "thump" if you rock the car side to side.
Putting the trans through all the gears with the engine off and clutch engaged isn't anything special, just means all the cogs are lined up in the trans.

Is this an 8.8 or a 7.5" There is no reason to blow an 8.8 as they are pretty solid. Normally whining will indicate the gears are wearing excessively.

what about the whining, I cant tell where it is coming from. If it is from the trans what would that indicate? I am going to change the fluid in the rear. What brand 80/90 weight gear oil would you recommend? I do know i added friction modifier from ford in there before about a year ago. Thanks.
