i installed a 84 svo suspension in my sons 91 mustang, when i was done i noticed that the rear tires stuck out about 3/4 of an inch out more on both sides then it did with the stock one wheel peel rear. why is this so? i thought all fox rears were the same dim. should i install the rear disk brakes onto an 8.8? will this move the tires in, back where they belong?

SVO rears are 1.5" wider than any other Mustang rear before 94, that is why. They front suspension is wider than a regular mustang as well, particularly when used with the SVO k member.
TC's (which area also fox body cars) have a 3/4" wider rear as well...same as the 94+ Mustangs.

The rear axle housing is actually the same width, all the way up to '98. The difference is the outer part of the axle is longer for disc brakes.

Can I install an 8.8 and swap the disc brakes over to that rear to get the wheel clearance? If what you say is correct even the 8.8 is the same width. Just the axles are wider. Can the brackets be modified to fit a standard axle from a 8.8 drum rear? i don't like how the tires fit in the wheel well!

You can flip the caliper brackets to move it in farther. I can't remember the details though. I'll see what I can dig up.

'83-'92 Ranger/Bronco II Left (driver) side axle (29-5/32") from a 4cyl or 3.0L V-6 with the 7.5" rear end, or '86-'97 Aerostar RIGHT side axles. You will need a pair of either axle. They will be 5 lug, and the same length as a stock fox body axle.
Then as stinger said, you can flip the brackets, or even modify them and mount them on the inside of the housing flange. If I recall, either way requires a little bit of modification in regards to the spacing.

I just wonder, is there a problem with the wheels being 3/4 out on either side of the car? Clearance maybe? Can one use a different wheel to get it back in a bit further?

Using 2005+ Mustang wheels will put them back where they should be. They have more backspacing than the earlier Mustangs.

SO IF ONE ROLLS THE FENDER LIP DOES THAT GIVE THE NECESSARY CLEARANCE? i HAVE THE ENTIRE DRIVE LINE OUT OF AN 88 TC THAT I PLAN ON PUTTING INTO AN 86 TRUNK CAR. I WANT TO KEEP THE 4 LUG (CALL ME CRAZY) JUST WONDERING WHERE THE CLEARANCE ISSUE IS, THE OUTSIDE , OR REAR?

The TC rear is 3/4" wider than a Mustang rear but that's not enough to cause a problem.

acjdavid, I have that set up 88tc REAR no issues I run a 275/60/15 . I just rolled the fenders for a little better clearance on the bumps, they would hit some times.

Just to clarify the TC rear is 3/4" wider overall then the standard fox Mustang rear? Reason I ask is because I am putting an '88 TC rear into an '88 Mustang hatchback. Sounds like the wheels will only be 3/8" further out which shouldn't be noticeable.

Will the 7.5 axles and brakes off an '88 Mustang fit on an '88 TC rear? I would like to avoid the disc brake swap for the time being.
