correction, boost builds incredibly slow below 5psi, and then creeps to 8 psi and finally hits 10. after 10 all feels normal.

So are you getting inconsistent boost then or were some of the results bogus? Can you list the boost rpm for the different tests like this, 10psi: With Gillis: XXXX rpm Bypassed Gillis: XXXX rpm Plugged WG: XXXX rpm

with gillis: 3300 rpm bypassed gillis (no line on wg): 2600-2700 rpm plugged wg: 4000 rpm
all tests are to 10 psi.
these are my results from the first time i did each test.

Did the results change later?

i think the only reason it spooled so much slower with the wg plgged was because i had accidentally flipped the fuel switch to regular. when i put the boost controller back on it, it was still spooling slow. i flipped the switch after i had seen this, and with the boost controller back on it, it spools to 10 psi at 3300 again.

wow, now heres a discovery. drove home tonight after not drivng the car all weekend. its cold so i figure i may as well have some fun with the weather. anyway, i smell something burning that smells like oil when i let out of it so i pull it into a well lit gas station and take a gander under the hood. sure as nuts, theres a large oil leak. its coming from the valve cover gasket. ITS COMPLETELY BLOW OUT OF THE VALVE COVER ON ONE SIDE! this gasket is the expensive blue one, and is less than a month old. i just replaced it. im no genius, but im thinking i have a bad pcv? and this may be why i have a slow spooling turbo as well?

I'd inspect the gillis to make sure there is no foreign material in it, no dings in the beveled sealing surface, etc. See if you can blow through it both ways...if you can it's leaking.

ill do that when i replace the gasket again this week. tuesday will probably be the day i have time to. should i go ahead and change the pcv valve as well?

Same test works for the pcv valve...

pcv valve and gillis are working properly. i cleaned the gillis valve and put a new vc gasket on it. oil pressure gauge reads high, and boost hits 10 psi from an 1800 roll in 3rd gear at the same 3300 rpm. but wow does the thing run well in the cold!

I'm kind of scratching my head on this one...I'm about out of ideas assuming there are no leaks anywhere.

it could just be that i have high expectations for this car given its mods. it could also be that my stock gauge is giving me readings that are far off. it ran AMAZING in the cold tonight. and the cork gasket did not have any leaks that i could see via flash light when i got in. hopefully by the weekend i can report back with some readings from my aftermarket gauge. i have to find the right compression fitting for it. either way, i appreciate your help. if anything, ive chased most, if not all of the gremlins from this car.

I don't think your expectations are out of line, it should boost at the same rpm as it does with no line going to the wastegate actuator.

well im going to get a better guage on it asap so that i get a better reading. what could be 10 psi may actually be 15 or something on the stock gauge. i also am getting an intermittent check engine light while i drive. it comes on, turns off, and comes on and off again periodically. so maybe that code will shed some light on this as well.

got the engine light to stop. it seemed to be one of those that would only come on when the engine rocked. got it to stop, and the car has been running well since then. no leaks and seems to build boost the same as it had before. hopefully by the weekend ill have the other gauge on it so i can get a more accurate reading of how fast it spools
