Stinger, I am upgrading my 1986 SVO to your 3" exhaust system and looking to the future with the installation of the Pimpx. Once I receive the exhaust, I want to install a bung for the future location of the O2 sensor. I will have limited space with the installation of sub-frame connectors (issue noted on my brothers SVO). I found at summit racing a J-Style O2 sensor fitting www.summitracing.com/parts/vpe-11620 and wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with this type of setup and will it work with the Pimpx? What is optimal/max location for the O2 sensor from the turbo outlet? Thanks in advance. Harry

Mount the O2 sensor in the exhaust system at least 18 inches downstream from the exhaust port. If you anticipate high EGT's (over 800C), run a turbocharger, run at high RPM for extended periods of time or plan on running leaded race fuel then you must mount the sensor at least 36 inches or more downstream of the exhaust port as all of these can cause the sensor to overheat. On turbocharged engines the UEGO sensor must be installed after the turbo charger, if not, the pressure differential will greatly affect the accuracy of the unit. For accurate readings, the sensor must be mounted before catalytic converters and/or auxiliary air pumps. To prevent collection of liquids between the sensor housing and sensor element during the cold start phase, the installation angle should be inclined at least 10° from horizontal with the electrical connection upwards, STRAIGHT from AEM.

I don't have any experience with the J style o2 fitting. My gut feeling is I wouldn't run it with a wideband.
With that said, there is no reason the wideband bung can't be welded on the side facing the centerline of the vehicle, angled up at a similar angle as the trans hump in the floor pan. This avoids the subframe connectors completely.
As far as distance, I wouldn't put it any closer than the bottom of the downpipe. It can be a couple feet farther back than that if necessary.

To All, Thanks for the feedback. Now I have a plan.

Stinger, Back for another question on location. Can the O2 sensor be located after a straight through muffler? If so, how far?

It basically just needs to be at least a couple feet after the turbo and a couple feet before the end of the exhaust system and have no leaks in front of it. If it gets a long ways away from the engine you just have to adjust the o2 delay in datalogs and such so things are in sync. This is all assuming there is no cat.
