Looking for suggestions for a turbo.
86 SVO, PIMP, FMIC, 3 inch downpipe, mildly ported head with RR cam. Future plans will upgrade pump and injectors, maybe put in a ported E6 manifold. Looking for a turbo that will work well with this combo. Goal is 250-300 rwhp. Running boost control with stock wastegate, btw.

Stock T3 is hard to beat at that power level, at least in the 250-275hp range, especially since it's free.

I think the housing on the stock turbo is cracked and leaking water. This is an Evergreen rebuilt unit, you know what that means.

Oh well throw that thing away then!
Do you have higher power goals in the future or this likely where you want to end up?

300 at the wheels would be more than enough for this car. I'd like it to perform roughly on par with my SHO that runs right under 13 in the quarter.

What sort of turbo budget do you have? The "best" options are quite a bit more than the "adequate" options.

If you're willing to spend that much then a Borg Warner EFR would be ideal. I'm just not sure which exact size would best. Wesk is the EFR expert around here.

This is coming from a different platform, but I have a Focus ST that I have been upgrading. It seems on those motors (2.0L DOHC Direct Injection) the ideal turbo is a GTX2867r. The 2867r is good for around 400 on those motors. A 3071r will get you around 500hp.
With the head on the 2.3 flowing as poorly as they do, I think the 2867r would be a pretty decent choice for power and quick spool times.
