Well i pulled up to a light next to a newer Pontiac Grand Prix today and ended up racing the guy. My problem is i lost to a stock pontiac. I did however happen across a *free* Holset HX30W in usable condition that i think will help this issue. There is no play in the shaft or anything and it looks fine but in need of being cleaned up a bit. Does anyone have any experience with this turbo on a 2.3? Its OBVIOUSLY larger than my little IHI, but the flanges look the same and all. Also, would it be wise to weld the integral wastegate shut and opt for an external one? And the oil feed line on this thing is about double the size of the IHI's. Am i going to need to feed this thing that much more oil too? I also probably need to know if theres any changes i need to make to my fuel system.

An HX30 is about the same size as a T3 in terms of max power potential. Because of this, and the fact that it is so much easier to run a T3 than the HX30, I'd suggest either a Ford style T3 or a larger Holset.
What year/style of Grand Prix was it? What mods do you have? There is a good chance if your car is mostly stock that the Grand Prix is just faster than your current configuration. There are alot of stock "regular" cars that run in the low 15's/mid 14's now and that's as fast/faster than a stock TC in many cases.

I'll agree about the blown V6 Pontiacs. We had several at the track last Sunday. Running anywhere from 14.5x to 15.1x.

My car is stock except for a high flow filter and open exhaust. The Grand Prix was of the late 90's early 2000's and i dont believe it was supercharged. Yea i think it would probably be a lot better to just find a T3 if this thing isnt much better. Right now its my everyday driver and i cant really afford down time, so ill hold off on any radical changes. And i should probably wait till i got a better job so i can afford some of the better upgrades also, such as a cam and front mount intercooler kit. Thanks again

I think ill hold off on that much for a bit too, i think my O2 sensor is slightly clogged or something, the car seems to be doggy once it gets into the higher rpm range. It pulls hard till about 3500 then seems to just drop off. I bought this car from someone that didnt take care of it, im pouring my heart into it though, its really come a long way since i got it. So, ive got a few bugs to track down before i can start my major mods. The boost controller is likely one of the first things i change, that and getting my exhaust put on.

An o2 sensor doesn't effect wide open throttle operation, it is ignored over 75% throttle. Sounds like an ignition issue. Possibly plug wires or spark plugs (or too much plug gap).

Well its the same story with the "everything is new" and i THINK its all working right. And i believe ive got the plugs gapped right, ill have to go over everything again on a warm day, but im not real worried about it, it doesnt effect drivability really. Its kinda sluggish when its cold and i notice a slight hiccup when accelerating at full boost, but i think it will be fine for now.

These engines, for whatever reason, are picky about what type of plugs/wires are used. The typical "parts store brand" wires are a big no-no, as are "high dollar" platinum, iridium, etc. plugs. They like motorcraft wires and motorcraft plugs gapped to .030". Autolite and NGK copper plugs also work.

Well when i get around to it ill swap out with regular motorcraft plugs. I do have normal motorcraft wires on it though and theyre new so that shouldnt be an issue. The first plugs i had were Bosch, holy crap never again. One day and they were already fried.

Yes, I'd say there is a pretty good chance that's the problem.
