I've seen numerous posts about the strength of the stock T5's ('84 model). I've even seen suggestions to move up to a T56. I only plan on autoX, my car will never see the drag strip. Realistically how much TQ is too much to daily street drive (with the semi-often street pull or roll race)? I'm crossing my fingers I can get over 350lb-ft to the wheels. I know people have made dexron soup inside the T5's just by launching the stock 5.0 with sticky tires. Should I wait for it to grenade itself (I have a spare from a turbo coupe), or do I spend the $$$ to get a used T56? If the T56 is going to be a better option what's needed for the swap, I know the crossmember and bell housing are needed. What about the driveshaft/clutch/etc.

We went high 10's in a Mustang with an old worn out one and made a ton of passes/launches on slicks with it. It was certainly over 400 lb/ft.
Missing shifts is the typical way to kill one. If you don't miss a shift then they will hold quite a bit.
