Anyone experience premature tfi failure. I put a new motorcraft one on it and it failed within 500 to 1000 miles.

Did you put the white heat transfer paste between the module and the distributor? You can't use the clear(ish) dielectric grease.

I did not use the white. What is it called? Is that what most likely killed it?

You should have found white paste (or powder) under the old TFI. That's the remnants of the old paste that was on there. Its job is to transfer heat from the TFI module to the distributor body to keep the TFI from overheating. Normally TFI's come with a small tube of it. It's called thermal paste or thermal grease.
