Good day gents, So I have a fuel problem upon acquiring the car I noticed a bouncing fuel pressure gauge on the aeromotive fuel pressure regulator and reading 70 psi at idle. Tried reducing pressure with the vacuum hose connected with no avail and also noted after the fuel pump cut out it dropped to zero. Figured it was the regulator so I changed it to a Kirban FPR that fixed the zero issue after pump cycled off. But soon turning the key the fuel pressure went to around 80-90 psi then kick out and the fuel pressure regulator would bring it too around 45. Do you guys think the fuel pump might be too big? Not sure what is in the car yet just looking for pointers

I'd take a close look at the return line for a kink, dent, or other restriction. While it's somewhat common for larger pumps to over-run the stock regulator, that's not the case with an aftermarket AFPR typically (unless the return line is restricted of course). Also verify the tank vent is free of obstruction.

Ok I will check the return line will have to pull the tank and blow through the line for a restriction I would assume and vent for verification. Also another point to note is when the pressure went to zero when the bad regulator was in the fuel pump never cycled back on to maintain pressure is that normal? The car started fine so wasn’t sure....

Do a visual check first, sometimes the line can be kinked from someone putting a jack or jack stand in the wrong place.
You can blow through the return line from the engine side without pulling the tank. Just unhook it from the rail and blow through it.
That is correct, the pump primes and then shuts off and doesn't run again until RPM is present (cranking).
