I was able to get ahold of Scott and he said that windows 7 has been giving people problems with the usb. he wants me to send it back to put an older style cable in it. I can hook it back up and try to see if your method works, or seeing that i have windows 7 do you for see it still being a problem?

"OK, do you have the driver I linked to in this thread downloaded and installed? If not, do it. Then, with the MS cable plugged in, go to control panel > device manager > serial com adapters (or something like that) and it will say prolific or PL2303 driver. Go to properties and see which com port it is installed on (com 1, com 2, com 3, etc.) Then go to tunerstudio, communications > settings > port and select the same port and click "test port". It should say successful and you are ready to go. "
I tried to install the files but of the three files on the driver disk sent with the ECU, the last would not load. Scott tried to help with problem, but no dice. We even tried to download Xp mode to run the software but i needed some kind of key.
I haven't tried to switch the ports like you said because of the last file not loading. Should i still try?
I purchased the Squirt over a year ago, do you think that the file on Scotts web sight is different than the one i have? I am so sorry for all the questions.

I use Windows 7 so it's certainly possible to get it to work, I did.
What is the name of the file that's not loading? What are the other two files that did load?
Did you install the prolific driver linked on Scott's site (which is what I found online and used to get mine to work with Win7, then emailed to Scott)?

the file name is in usb-232. the first two worked but not the third didn't. its name is HL-340. once that opens, a box comes up with "set up V1.40" at the top. In side that box it says "Device Driver Install/ Uninstall" Directly below that it says "Select INF File:CH340SER.INF" . . . . . I click install and it says it cant install. About the prolific driver- no- I didnt realize i needed to do any thing other than what was on the cd he sent.

i down loaded that file and when i open it it gives me a error message.
It says: Compressed (zipped) folders error
Inside that box it says:
windows can not open folder The compressed (zipped) folder C/ user/curtis,desktop/PL203_prolific_driver installer_10311.zip' is invalid
Even though no error pops up, if i test the ports (all 20) they all fail .
But when i go to tunnerstudios it doesnt say comport error any more, BUT it will not let me deselect work off line.

dizzle you need to go out on line and search for drivers. This is what I had to do. It took me two days of searching to find driver that would work on my laptop.

Dan, what should i type in my browser? "windows 7 usb driver" or " mega squirt driver" ?
I am living in the stone age when it comes to technology. I just found out what a blog is about 2 weeks ago. I live way to sheltered i guess.

You don't need to search for anything on google. The driver link I provided is the only file you need to get it to work with Windows 7. How to unzip depends on what programs you have. When you right click on the file you should see the option to "unzip" or "extract" the file near the top of the list that pops up. If not, download WinZip here: www.winzip.com/prod_down.htm, install that program, then right click on the driver file and select "extract here". Then run the file you extracted and it will install the driver. Make sure the MS2 cable isn't plugged in when you install the driver.
