just wondering from other ppl's experiences with this gasket , if just using the 1035 felpro is just a more reliable bet...
just tonight on my second pass @ 20-21psi the 8993 gasket just popped after letting off the gas at the end of the quarter mile...
didn't hear any detonation/nothin to that matter... and had my air/to water ice box on fully so the temps where probably pretty cold for the air/water intercooler.
also before this 8993 gasket was put on, i had the head resurfaced and plugged from the old cracks it had previously. so the head was strait and true...
compression was on par before this incident as well from the 160's to 170's...
so my question is... for a learning experience.... should i try this 8993 again , or go to the 1035 felpro., and will the felpro 1035 seal as well for track purposes only? .
kinda pissed cause spending around 165.00 in tow truck money allways hits home for me... (which coulda paid for a new gasket and studs)
any advice would be helpful.

First question is did you retorque after heat cycling the engine? If not, that's the first problem.
I will suspect that your deck isn't flat, though you won't be able to measure this until it's apart. You'll need a machinist's straight edge and a set of very small feeler gauges to measure the deck. Anything over 2 thousandths too far out of spec for it to hold.
As for the gasket, that's what I'm running in the SVO without issue (now that the deck is flat). There is another guy making over 600rwhp on an 8993.

so your saying retorque , the 12 point head bolts after first heat cycle? i thought they were tq to yeild...
if that's the case, then that will be the first thing to do.
as far as the deck. you might be right... i haven't had the block out of the car yet.. only the head to get milled and fixed and put back on...
first things first. i'll examine everything once off. were it blew from ect ect. .. try this gasket again... make those changes and go from there. pictures will be posted tho.

12pt are stock which aren't TTY. 6py are TTY.

just remember/checked i had the 6pt tty bolts on em...
but could over torque be a problem? , i did 30, 60 , to 90, foot pounds, then did 100 when i originally put the gasket on .
maybe overtqing them could make the bolts weak?
i will be pulling the head off tomorrow as i got all the assessories out of the way today to remove the head.

That's not how you torque the TTY bolts and an overtorque will ruin the bolts and distort the deck.

your right, head bolts were weak and weren't holding the tq...
good thing is... took the head off about an hour ago... no damage to anything other then the gasket..
blew right thru #4 ring of fire seal ..past the coolant part and strait out the block to the side.
more info on this soon. but thanks stinger for helpin me out.... i think i got the 6pt bolts confused with the 12pt bolts. hence the mix up on tq specs./ tq angle.
i'll have pictures up on that soon today or tommorrow

just wanted to give an update.
cars running fine again, and did the proper tty head procedure w the angle gauge with the new bolts .
but i think i'm gonna go with studs after this winter since this car is gonna mostly be a track car.
but the lil stang is back on the road and running strong.

Whoop hold up. You installed new head bolts or the same ones from the last gasket? How many times have they been run?

These are new TTY Bolts....
i'm not that stupid... lol
Matt, i have a question for you... based on TTy Bolts. have you or anyone else have good experience with them , with long term results? (with over stock psi... lets say around 20psi or so. )
i know i overstretched the previous head bolts by overtq'ing them so i know it was a ticking timebomb, but now that i properly tq'd the new bolts and angled them.. should they be fairly strong?
i made sure i did everything exact to Spec , even with the torque angle gauge... 51/52 foot pounds, then 90degrees . ( this is from the New Ford Factory Specs with TTY head bolts. )
i'm just worried about making the same mistake twice. . . .

TTY bolts are fine when used correctly. ALL of the new cars come with them and that wouldn't be the case if they were a pos.

Ha I was just double checking. Yeah I'm definitely not saying its bad to use them but remember that we re-torque everything so I run regular bolts. It really breaks down to this; if the bolts aren't stretched, the surfaces are flat and the torque is right...its as good as you're going to get. It can still blow but will be quite a bit more resistant.
