Hello everybody,I'm throwing a question out there for my brother that's planning a total rebuild on the 2.3 motor. He has the Holset HY35/piggyback system w/ two 75lb injectors along with the stock 36 brown tops...with a A237 Cam I believe? and big valves with a stock block...Just blew the Headgasket or maybe Block just recently and we're going with a total rebuild regardless of what the problem is...We're planning to make a bulletproof block with new bearings, maybe new or cut crank, new pistons, H-beam rods...etc.. Now Me and my brothers are thinking of going with a higher compression/stroked block...Anybody have idea's of how this would work? We already know that a total rebuilt block with stock specs such as 8:1comp ratio/2.3 would work just fine but we want something more...We want 9:1comp ratio with a 2.5 we understand now lower boost is required since higher compression...Has anybody done something similar... How about 8:1comp ratio/2.5 which is the most common conversion...but how about 9:1comp ratio/2.3??? What are the advantages/disadvantages of 2.3-2.5 or 8:1-9:1... We need everybody's opinion or experience so we can make one bad ass Merk...Thanks for the help....

The hp gain from the .2L of added displacement is typically only about 5%. On pump gas a 9:1 setup will be limited to less boost than an 8:1 engine and should make less peak hp because of it. With race gas or E85, the 9:1 setup might make more power.
