whats up guys i just recently got my dirty little hands on a beautiful 84 SVO, and recently i have been having some problems...
the first problem was that it wouldnt stay running and i couldnt find the problem but come to find out it have a vaccum leak were the intake tube off the turbo wasnt sealed so i temperarly fixed it by just putting the VAN(MAF??) box directly on the turbo with a coupler and it ran fine nut now after running it a week and a couple cruises to houston it is acting up again??? when i first start it, it idles up to 1,000rpm then dies, then when i finally get it running it idles at 1,000 then sometimes idles up to 2,000rpm on its own, and other times it just dies if i dont countinuly give it gas, could it be that i need a tune? i know im getting enough fuel pressue, the gauge stays at high 30's, low 40's Oh and when it finally stays running for a while pretty good it starts to idle down to 850rpm?? and idles really choppy, and when i was messing with the VAN box i stuck my finger in it and opened the door slightly and it started to run perfect until i removed my finger then it went right back to the choppy idle then eventually dies....
NEED HELP PLEASEE, and if you want you can email me at cfish1992@yahoo.com Thanks, Cameron

You need to pressure test the system to locate any more vacuum leaks (if they exist). It will never be right if there are any leaks. You can make a "cap" to pressure test it out of a pvc pipe cap and a fitting for an air compressor hose. Clamp it into the system at the throttle body and pressure it up to 20psi or so.
Scan for codes (code scanner tool is $20 from parts store, eec-iv tester).
After you get codes, report back.

Plug the scanner into the diagnostic port (near the passenger side strut tower) and then do as the scanner says. Different scanners require different steps after this point.
