can i use the stock automatic tranny from a stock non-turbo 2.3 behind the turbo 2.3? will it hold up? do i need a different la3 computer or are the stick and auto the same computer? i want it to spool up and stay spooled up like the grand nationals did.

You can use one but don't expect it to hold up all that well. You'll need an auto ecu, or to put the lockup converter on a toggle switch.

LA3 and LA2 are stick, 8UA, LB3 are auto.
There is no cheap auto overdrive option that will handle decent power. If you don't plan to make more than 250hp, a large trans cooler will allow a stocker to last quite a while. Much more power than that though and you'll have issues without doing a performance rebuild on it using explorer internals.
You could always do an AOD swap using our 5.0 adapter plate?

For what you will have in the AOD swap you could probably do a C4 with a GV overdrive unit. I can't even imagine an AOD behind a 2.3 sucking it dry of power, but maybe i'm wrong?

why do the AOD's use that much HP to turn? the GV unit is pricey even thu the work well, its to much money for him right now! that is why i was thinking of the AOD.
