Porting won't change reliability. It comes down to how much power you want to make on pump gas and how much you want to spend. If you goal is less than 350rwhp I'd say don't bother with porting the Volvo head.

thanks stinger, but i guess my ? is more about road manners. ya no can i enjoy driving it to work still ? allright i want 400 so a little port work will be needed. i was just wondering if i should spend the money and time. you know porting if you cant do it you have to wait.

Porting won't hurt street manners, it will actually make more power everywhere so it would make it drive a bit better out of boost. That being said, the head flow says porting isn't needed for 400hp. Porting will allow you to make the power at a lower boost level though (which helps if you are trying to do it on pump gas).

I've tuned some cars with Megasquirt over the internet before. Not super difficult, just time consuming.
55's will get you close to that hp level, even a little over it with a little more fuel pressure. 65's or 75's would suffice for much more than 400.
The reason the Wilson MS kit is more expensive is because it's a complete ready to run kit (all configured for your setup and soldered together) rather than just a generic case full of components that you have to solder together to fit your needs.

so for ease it is best to get the one form wilson that is what i was thinking. with ms i can go with 65 lb inj and still be streetable.

You can run 120's and still be streetable if the tune is correct.

the more hp your motor makes n/a, the more its going to make on boost with lower boost levels (up to a point). porting the head wont hurt at all, and in fact will make your car more responsive out of boost (like an n/a car). forgive me if this has been said already, i skimmed the thread before replying. good luck!

sleepinsol thanks for the info. i see what your saying. my porter says not to do much till i get some better cams, he says with a little work he will fine tune it for the stock cams i have now.

dial the cams in with the turbo youre using. no sense in getting huge cams if your turbo wont spin to the higher rpms (ie like an ihi dies out at 5k rpm while the stock slider cam makes power to about 6k rpm). the porting wont hurt either way.
