As the title suggests I'm curious if anyone has any experience (good or bad) with the reground cams offered by Big R Motorsports. Since they're solely 2.3T enthusiast based it makes me think they would be mindful of their client base and develop good turbo friendly cams so I'm willing to give them a try but if anyone has some input I'd be grateful to hear it.
If this is the wrong forum section let me know and I can repost it elsewhere.

I don't have any personal experience with them. Without cam specs it's hard to make much of a judgement. I know regrinds by design are limited within the constraints of the stock cam (meaning final specs are limited because of the cam that's used as the starting point).

I hadn't considered the physical limits of the factory core so that's a very good point to keep in mind and I'm grateful you mentioned it. I was looking to their Ranger "R" regrind with 188/191 duration and 442/443 intake and exhaust lift, respectively. Something that will make for a good daily driver with some pep (while getting rid of the slider cam).
Those are the only specs listed

I believe Boport also offers his 1.1 model cam in reground form, I found those listed yesterday after I made my initial post.

Yeah, I think he may offer the 1.5 in reground form as well.
It appears BigR's cam specs are quoted as duration @.050" for the R cam and regular duration for the rest of the cams so it's hard to compare them.

And 188/191 is TINY. Like stock cam tiny.

With cam shopping I've done for previous engine builds I know it can get tricky to compare cams with figures @.050 to gross duration numbers. I did notice the duration figures were basically identical to the stock numbers though.
Since the head needs machine work anyway I'll plan to have it sent off to Bo to get better seats and the works while I have it off (best time to get it done) which means I'll probably ask him to install either his 1.5 or 2.1 cam. I've read the posts across this site and it seems these two come highly recommended for daily driver type builds.

Those specs for the regrind are identical to the Delta 2.3 Ranger regrind offered by Delta that I have... Just for comparison. Sounds like that is about all one can expect from a stock core cam.

Tutulate,
What's been your experience with cams with these kinds of specs? This is my first forced induction build so I'm open to input from people who've been there/done that/still doing it.

If you are going to spend $ on a cam, go with an aftermarket core. Most go with Bo's common grinds. Schneider will do about any custom grind you want, but cores are expensive for these.

The Delta regrind only gives you more lift... You will not get any cam design advantage over stock. I installed it for a few years in my stock head SVO, as I wanted to go to a roller cam setup in anticipation of going to a "Big valve" head. IMO, I got more performance from the better springs( 128 lbs seat vs 80- stock) than the cam! It was the springs that allowed the higher RPMs I needed for my trans to shift properly at WOT.
I totally agree with wesk's advice, since you are doing head work. I had Bo install a 2.1 when he did my head, and am very happy. Remember, there are a LOT of other mods needed to take advantage of a big valve head. Stinger's list of "Mods for 'x' HP" is an excellent roadmap.

I talked to Big R about their cam specs not being consistent between listings and such. They said they will update the listings and/or provide cam cards in the listing soon.
