Is the 3"down elbow a significant improvement to the stock elbow when running aether with a 3"DP? I want a 3"DP for my girls car, but don't want to run a stock elbow if its going to rob power. I like the plug and play ability with stinger's pipe. two bolts and its done. I went strait from a stock elbow and down pipe to a stinger header and external gate, and DP. So i have no comparison in my experiences. any input will help.

With a stock turbo, it's a small gain (10hp/tq or so). With a hybrid turbo and accompanying mods, it could double or even triple those gains depending on the power the engine is making.
The other problem with a 3" elbow on a stock turbo is you're almost promised to break at least a few of the bolts that hold the stock elbow on (and many times, they all snap off).

Its a basic stock long block, ARP head studs, bob's log header, ranger cam, adj cam gear, t3/t4 hybrid, gutted and rotated upper, knife edged lower, big throttle body, and a FMIC. Why does the stock elbow with a 3" brake bolts? the flange is still the same, is it the extra weight?

Because the bolts have been in those threads for more than 20 years on factory set ups. When I installed my full downpipe and elbow from stinger I got two of the five out, then had to take the exhaust housing to work to get the rest drilled out and rethreaded.

i see I don't have to worry about that then. my factory bolts are long gone.
