I have a mostly stock 88 Turbo Coupe except for a K&N cone on the VAM and a gillis boost valve installed as well as a 255 Walbro and a Kirban AFPR awaiting installation.
Opening up the restrictive factory exhaust would seem like the next logical step.
My car is a daily driver and I’m not currently shooting for any more than aprox’ 300 hp. I like the quick spooling time of the IHI, would it still be useful for this power range with the stock IC as long as I watch what octane I’m running and pay attention to the outside ambient temp?
I have an extra E6 manifold so I think I might try my hand at porting it.
As soon as the funds are available I believe I will be ordering a stinger single 3” kit from the downpipe to the tailpipe. This should open things up pretty good although the only part I’m worried about is the exhaust elbow off the turbo. Considering the rest of my set up do you think the elbow will cause me any major restrictions that will hinder the performance of the rest of my exhaust set up? Would gutting the upper intake and knifing the lower be a good idea now, or ever?
At this point the only other upgrade I can see that would be needed would be a clutch upgrade which was in the works anyways as my factory one is starting to go. And I will probably get an LC-1 to play with.
So my only other question is – is there anything I have overlooked or something else that could be useful for complementing these upgrades at this level? You know before going to the bigger turbo, header, FMIC, Stand Alone ECU, methanol-water injection ...... slicks ;D
Thanks
