I read somewhere that when you rotate the upper intake, that it is necessary to make a pie cut to allow the intake to "nose down" a little to clear the hood.
Has anyone had first hand experience with this? I was thinking about fabricating 1" or 1.5" adapter but don't want to shoot myself in the foot after making it, only to find that my hood won't shut.

Yes, you need to pie cut it. An easy way to tell is to just unbolt the intake and rotate it with one bolt to hold it in place, the hood won't close...it's at least 2" away.

What about using the "short" intake from the 87-88 T-coupes on the mustang?

I still don't think it will clear, they are only an inch or so shorter.

How would I go about rotating my upper? I'm assuming I would have to cut it and weld it back together but where?

Yes, right here: www.stinger-performance.com/stockparts.html , it's the 4th product listed, about 1/4th the way down the page. The "how much" is difficult to answer since there are so many options. It's all explained and shown on the site though. Note there are 4 drop down menus for checkout, each effecting cost.
