I got an 87 Merkur xr4ti, i just bought it. didnt have a clue what it was but i heard the words turbo and it ran so i got it. Problem is i got it started and the catalytic converter was stopped up so i wacked it off and started it agian. What would cause my car to smoke so bad u cant see through it and the intake tubes have some oil in them??? I took it out on the road and brung it up on the brake, it showed 25psi of boost!? i was very impressed how it ran in the 60ft, but it started missing, i pulled it back in and the plugs were fouled out bad, so i figured id see if it had some compression, 3 and 4 blew my finger out violently, 1 and 2 did but not near as fierce. there is no water in the oil, i drained the oil tonight and it was over full by like 4qrts. what have i gotten into? Plz someone out there tell me what is wrong or atleast what to do next!? thanks for any help

whoooah hold up...
A stopped converter is an issue yes but the smoking part needs to be addressed really slowly. You're saying you got 25 psi by power braking? was this with the tires spinning or not?
So make a little list of the things that it does or doesn't do. Your "finger over the hole" is not a compression test. thats an "I dont have a compression gauge" test. Typically when I've blown a HG between cylinders the #2&3 go out and not 1 and 4. Put a gauge on it for accuracy.
Give more details about the car. Is it modded in any way shape or form?

Alrighty guys sorry i was light on the details. the car has no apparent mods but the factory gauge could be off idk? well tonight i changed the oil, plugs and timing belt. My problem now is yes i have no compression gauge lol but i started the car and it did not smoke! so i believe i solved that problem but now the problem is 1 and 2cylinders have a miss that is apparent and clears up at 3grand or above but both cylinders miss terribly under load, could this possibly be cause the head gasket is blown in between the two cylinders? sorry i guys im still new to this whole boosted game. and btw the tires were not spinning the Ebrake is excellent in the car!
im gonna try to borrow a gauge tommorow what should it have like 100 or so cause i know its low on compression cause of the whole boost thing.

ok..I'd be terribly surprised if it made 25psi even if the car was modded. Does it have a boost valve on it? What plugs and what did you gap them to? you are saying it misses under 3 grand and under load? I need to you to clarify that a little too. If there's a question sure do a compression test. When you do this disable the fuel system, take all the plugs out and crank it with the throttle blade wide open. I wont guess at your numbers, just post what you get and you'll likely be able to figure out on your own if thats the issue.

The compression test should show around 150psi but gauges vary. That's why the "test" is to make sure all the cylinders are within 10% of each other. Be sure to do the test as stated above, if you don't pull all the plugs first, it won't show a blown headgasket between cylinders.
You can borrow a compression gauge from Autozone.
Don't run it over 15psi EVER until you get it running correctly and figure out why it is over boosting. Your foot controls boost so simply getting off the throttle will stop boost from climbing. There is no excuse for it overboosting "on accident". All you'll get out of it is more problems that will cost you more money. I would guess your wastegate actuator is blown but we'll test that later.
