I just installed my stinger dual piston BOV and i started the car and got under the hood to rev the car and hear the BOV work. When i did i started hearing a "tink tink tink" sound coming out of the cone air filter after i rev'd it high enough to get boost and let off. I usually don't rev the car from under the hood so i haven't heard this before. I am guessing my turbo is shot which just gives me a reason to buy a bigger one!

Only takes a minute to pull the hose off the front of the turbo and see how much play the turbo has with VERY little pressure...forcing it over is an issue.

The turbo does not have too much play but it does move just a little

That's normal as long as it doesn't have enough to touch the housing with very minimal pressure.

So if the turbo was not the tick i was hearing then is it something worse? Like possibly the engine?

It's impossible for me to say. You'll need to stick your head down in there and try to locate the vicinity it's coming from, then narrow it down from there.

I believe what you are hearing is the door in the VAM bouncing rapidly on decel. The spring in the VAM is closing the door but engine vacuum is opening it. The tink tink tink is coming from the door hitting the VAM body. Mine does the same thing.

I was thinking it had something to do with the VAM after I took the turbo off and realized it was fine. It sounded real close to the air filter so I just got everything back on and will start it up again and listen a little closer. Thanks for the help I was getting worried it might be the engine. It has 165,000 miles on it.
