I swapped in an 88 turbocoupe motor into my 1991 mustang. I put on a fmic and a ranger radiator with a single one speed fan. Im not sure if i pinned something wrong but it seems like the fan runs almost all the time and doesnt let the engine get up to normal operating temperature. I checked to make the thermostat was not stuck open. Im getting a code 82 and 83 with a few other codes. Any suggestions?

I would run the fan on its entirely own circuit from the sending unit, to the relay, to the fan. Not sure about codes, DEFINETLY a issue.

What exactly do you mean and how can i go about running the fan on its entirely own circuit? does this mean operating the fan by a switch?

no run a wire from the stock sending unit( prefferably on the head were temperatures are hotter) to a relay, to the fan. When the sending unit sees the temperature of your sending unit depending on what temp it is it will trigger the relay and kick the fan. Also check to see if you rsending unit is good.

Does it run all of the time or most of the time? There is a big difference. How do you know whether it is to operating temp? Stock gauge in dash or aftermarket?

the fan is pinned into pin 51. As soon as the key is turned on the fan runs. I was going by the stock 91 mustang 2.3 temp gauge in the dash.

I pulled the codes today and am getting code 81, 83, 41, 65, 72, 74, 25, and 34. The temp gauge on the dash never quite makes it into the normal range. I dont really know where to begin. I understand that im getting 83 and 34 because i blocked off the EGR. And i also know that code 25 is from disconneting the knock sensor. I was told 41 was an oxygen sensor code, i relocated the o2 sensor under the car before the cat. Could this cause the code? Im not sure what any of the other codes are. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

41 - EGO reading lean (o2 sensor)
65, 72, 74 are not valid 2.3T codes.
The rest are typical of swapped cars.
The 02 code could be a bad sensor, or it could be something else causing the lean condition and the 02 is reading the lean burn correctly.
I'd hook a proper temp gauge to it before assuming it isn't warming up. A "flashing light" 02 sensor gauge will also tell you if it is exceeding 190 degrees.
