After installing the gutted and ported manifolds I am getting some detonation. Added more fuel but didn't solve the problem. Will I need to advance the timing after installing the manifolds?
I removed the distributor for more access but I set timing at 10 degrees with spout unplugged when I reinstalled.
Mods consist of adjustable turbo valve PSI running at 12, K&N cone, 3" downpipe into 2.5" with muffler only (no CAT), adjustable FPR and of course the gutted manifolds.
Stock IHI turbo, stock intercooler,
Thanks Craig
I will be sending my cores back in the next few days.

If the detonation is from the additional airflow leaning out the engine, additional fuel pressure should fix it. If it doesn't fix it after adding up to 5psi of fuel pressure, the issue is that your timing is advanced compared to what it was before. The ported intakes won't change timing requirements. Advancing timing beyond stock will cause detonation. Are you positive the timing was at 10 deg BTDC before the intake swap?

Positive? No. The timing was set 10 degrees BTDC before the install but I did remove the distributor when installing the new intakes so I did a quick timing set after reinstall. I will go back and start from scratch and make sure timing is correct. This was my next step anyway just wanted to ask just incase I missed something.
Thanks I will let you know if it solves my problem
