Northern Auto Parts: Ford 2.3L Turbo 1983-7/15/1986 Ford 2.3L Turbo 7/16/1986-1988
There is a production date split on these re-ring kits. I don't know the date of my donor block. Does anyone know what they changed in July of 1986?

The oil pan gasket design is the main difference. All of the internal parts are the same.

Did they do any kind of main or rod journal undersizing from the factory on these blocks?

No, not on the turbo engines.

Great, thanks! Hopefully I chose the kit with the correct oil pan gasket.... That would be a minimal extra expense though...

The early front/rear of the seal areas are grooved, the newer style is flat.

Reviving an old one here....
Is the headgasket that comes with this re-ring kit worth using or should I just spring for the good Felpro?

It should come with Felpro gaskets so it would be a standard 8993 (which I'm using on my SVO).
