If built properly with the sonax servo covers, upgraded clutches, boost valve, shift kit etc can an A4LD be built to handle 350ish hp ? I have a spare that i can have my trans guy build cheap while my delayed shifting one holds out. Or should i put in my C4 and call it done? I really like the lockup and overdrive though.

It should be ok at that power level if you also run a large trans cooler. Heat is the biggest thing that kills those transmissions.

Thanks stinger for the reply. I am looking for a 4.0 ranger trans to start with then upgrade it.

does a 4.0 ranger have the right bellhousing? I was under the impression that an A4LD was a one piece case meaning the bell was made together. Correct me if I'm wrong because I don't think I have any left to go out and look at.

Matt the bell is removable like a c4. I just need to swap my 2.3 bell and it will bolt right in, except i will have to change the output shaft and tailshaft extension since the one i found is from a four wheel drive exploder.
