I have spark and fuel, i think, the spark plugs smell of gas when i take them out but i cant see any in the cylender. i cranks slow and will not start. anybody have any ideas?

make sure your starter isn't bad, also make sure timing is set corectly

worked on it sone more. There is fuel and spark. It back fires every now and then but won't start. I am putting new plugs in it. Any other ideas?

Backfire indicates either the plug wires are out of order or timing is WAY off.

Ok, I have spark and fuel. I reset the distributor and checked the timing. Now I have nothing. Plug wires are in the right order and everything.

I figured it out. It was the advance on the distributor. Thanks for the help

Yep, I just need a gasket for the oil return and I need to block off the EGR. When I start it, it will go up to 4000 rpm. I am pretty sure that is just because there is no EGR. Other than that yes.
