hey yesterday i was driving my car and notice it was running lean. When i accelerated i noticed it when to 17afr with like 10 psi and i heard a backfire. the car stold out . I had it towed. When i opened the hood i noticed the relay for my second fuel pump was not connected. I connected it and seem to have plenty of fuel. WHen i pulled the plugs out they are wet.. Car just cranks but wont even try to start. As if i am out of fuel.Any ideas.

Scan for codes, make sure the timing belt didn't skip any teeth.

i found a stripped distributor gear and a strip axuliry shaft. What to do. Give me the best advice. Where do i get these parts from. And also how do I replace the axuliry shaft? I have never taken one out. what all is involved? Is it a big deal. I have stripped The distributor gear before about 10,000 miles ago. And just replaced the axuliry shaft. THanks stinger.

I just went through the same issue a few weeks ago. I stripped a dizzy gear and replaced it with a new one and it did it weeks later. When the gears strip it sends that metal into the oil pump and other parts of the engine. I ended up just rebuilding a turbo engine to replace my NA engine and upgraded to the esslinger gears because i can't stand the week crap the factory used. Some guys have luck with replacing both gears as a matched set and some times it will last. If funds permit i would bite the bullet and buy the esslinger parts.

I just plan on replacing the gears. I Have never had problems with them reoccurring. Just this one. But then again I messed up and put a high flow oil pump in. Anyway where would i find a axuliry shaft from. And what parts would i need? I would like to keep stock gears. Also does anyone have any info on how to replace the axuliry shaft. What alll is involved. I think this is the only part i have never changed on a 2.3 turbo engine. Really metal goes to the oil pumP mabye it will slow down the flow.(LOL)

With your high volume oil pump you will continue to eat gears, it's just the way it is. The Esslinger parts "may" fix the problem but no promises.
As for the aux removal, I think you just remove the retainer plate and pull it out.
Metal does go in the pump but instead of slowing the flow in binds up the gears and causes the new gears to strip because the pump won't turn.

I think they are still available from Ford. You can flush it however you like...just remember it only takes one piece of metal to lock up the pump.

If I put the high dollar esslinger parts in, there is no question I would pull the engine to flush it. With the stock parts (which are cheaper but not cheap), I would possibly attempt to flush it with transmission fluid through all the orifices, drain it, use a magnetic oil plug, and hope for the best.
