OK I have a 79 mustang with a 87Tc motor in it. Ive been having problems left and right with getting the motor running right. The problem I'm having now it that the motor wont idle if i hold the gas around 2000 RPM it runs OK but has a little miss to the engine, and will back fire once every 15 or 20 sec but its not loud. When I let off the gas completely the motor will run fine for about 5 sec. The cam and crank timing is dead on the flue pressure is 35psi new plugs wires distributor cap and rotor. the only thing i came up with is that I'm running a 85Tc mass air flow sensor instead of a 87 could that be the problem... any suggestions would help to give me a start on what to do

the sensor is most likely your problem depending on the ECU your running if its an 87-88 ecu then yes thats your problem.

The ecu requires you to run the matching vam (not mass air) and injectors. An 87 TC ecu requires you to use brown top 35lb injectors and a large vam, failure to do so will create a number of problems.

Get one used from eBay or the wanted section on here, they typically bring 30-40 shipped used.
