Starting build

Hey guys, this may be a real pain in the butt question and if it is I'm sorry.

Just recently I purchased an 87 turbocoupe. The engine was previously taken apart 10 years ago by a previous owner. So I am getting ready to start a build on it.

My hopes are a high 10 low 11 second car with full interior. More than likely a nice show/street car. I'm wanting to keep the 2.3 with the 5 speed.

What parts do you recommend from you guys to build this engine? This will be my first engine build and I'm wanting to do it right the first time.

Sounds like you're going to need about 400hp at the wheels.

You're going to need a professionally ported stock head, or an aftermarket head (both of which run $1500+) plus an large aftermarket cam with proper valvetrain. What exact cam we'll get to as we narrow down some details.

The stock shortblock can handle 400hp (barely) so whether you rebuild that with better rods/pistons is optional.

You'll need ported intakes like ours, ported exhaust manifold or header, 60mm 94-95 5.0 throttle body.

Turbo capable of that much power (again, we'll get to this after more details are provided).

You'll need a tuneable ECU like our PiMPx/PiMPxs along with at least 80lb injectors, if not larger.

You'll need an FMIC with blow off valve like ours.

You'll need free flowing 3" exhaust like ours.

You'll probably need an external wastegate depending on turbo/manifold selection.

You'll need a boost controller like ours.

Our oil lines while it's all apart is a good idea.

Cone filter like ours.

Stage 3+ clutch like ours at minimum.

I think that covers all the main details off the top of my head.

What sort of usage are you wanting out of this car? Street car, drag only, street/strip, etc.? What sort of budget do you have? Would you rather buy new or used stuff?

Oh BTW I am starting off with an 87 i recently bought for $100 that has a half tore down motor already. But comes with TONS of extra parts like 2 extra blocks, 3 heads, cams, 2 sets of pistons and rings ( stock and 30 over, 3 turbos, computers, wiring, 2 good interiors, another good sunroof, another good rear glass, 4 complete svo exhausts for a mustang, and tons more!

Sounds like you should be able to fund a decent amount of performance parts by selling off the spare parts, can't complain for $100!
