well im gonna dig into my motor to try and figure out why it runs the way it does, while its apart im going to port the exhaust manifold and maybe intake manifold, but i was wondering what the best size intercooler piping is for a front mount?
i used to have a BIIIIIG front mount on it and 2.5" piping, and i was told the IC was too big and the piping was too big.....
also im going to be switching to a .63ar garrett when it goes back together BTW

i use 2.5 off the turbo to the intercooler (its the big npr intercooler) and 3inch from vam to throttle body (it's a blow through vam) so i would say your good to go with 2.5inch, and when it comes to intercoolers usually bigger is better.

The best size IC is the largest that you can fit in the nose of the car.
The best size tubing is the size that minimizes the amount of times it increases/decreases size. Typically on a turboford this means 2.5" tubing unless your IC has a 3" outlet and you have a 3" inlet on your throttle body...then 2.5" from the turbo and 3" to the throttle body is fine.

If you calculate the amount of airflow compared to the amount of volume in the small tubing/small IC system and the large tubing/large IC system, you'll see the difference in the amount of time it takes to fill the larger volume is in hundredths of a second.

the blow through is working great! just finishing tuning it today, it is easy to do, and one of the best mods i ever did, faster spool, and a lot better punch, because it is no longer restricting turbo inlet air.

Don't attempt it if you don't have a wideband meter.
