My car ran 13.5 @103 with 18psi non intercooled with alky spray on the stock .60-.63 turbo. After a holset WH1C and powerstroke cooler it went 13.0 @108 with 25psi. I feel the turbo did nothing but produce lag? I am in the process of swapping a C4 and 3500 converter and feel it will pick up a fair amount from the swap. I want the car to run 11.80 with a stock engine and was wondering if i can do that with the stock garrett? And why did the holset not seem to add any power? I also like the quick spool of the stocker and miss that for daily driving. The car is approx 3,000lbs with driver so i figure it needs 330-350hp to get the job done. Thanks!!

Adding a Holset before you have the additional airflow (or rpm range) to fully use it and get it to spool properly will add power at redline but make it slower overall because of the lack of power below 4500 or so. A stock T3 will support up to 300rwhp or so, though a few have pushed them to 330rwhp or so. Nobody has went faster than 115mph in the 1/4 with one without spraying or having a very light car. A holset needs a cam swap at minimum to still be fun (so you can raise the power band from 3000-5500 to 4000-7000). Airflow mods (ported head, intakes, header, etc.) are required to make it drive like a stock turbo (full boost a bit over 3000 rpm).

Thanks stinger i'm really debating switching back to the garrett, it is more fun just cruising and daily driving. I will track test it once i get the auto in soon with the holset, but will not likely have enough time to swap the turbo back to the garrett and run again as it's like in the 30's and getting colder fast.

Sounds like a plan.

Well i switched my WH1C with 12cm turbine for an HY35 with 9cm turbine and boy is it much better. It spools 1,000 rpm quicker and runs much better even out of boost. Hopefully if the rain holds off i can track test it again. My friends letting me try his 28" tall drag radials, hoosier or mickeys i can't remember so that should help over my 275-50-15 mickey drag radials that have no sidewall flex.I feel the taller tires will help gear it up some so it will stay in gear and pull longer. The only thing is it has boost creep and i didn't port the WG hole so when i remove it next time i will do that.

Yeah, the compressor wheels are basically the same but the exhaust housings are much smaller on the Hy35's. I'm surprised it spooled 1000 rpm sooner though, I would've expected 300-500 rpm.
