O and it really only happens when i come to a stop if i can figure out how to use this check engine light ill see if I cant get some codes up hear for you all thanks for the help

Self test connector is behind the driver's side strut tower. You can buy a scanner for $20 or so from Autozone or similar stores...

Says it is idling low (obviously), the ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor is reading incorrectly, the knock sensor isn't hooked up, and you didn't goose the throttle when it wanted you to.

thanks stinger for all the help but a couple of questions really quick whats causing the low idle problem and how do i fix it. And since i bought the scanner i scanned my 79 that has a all stock 87 tc motor that im having timing problems with.. i got the cam timing correct but when i set the ignition timing to 10 BTDC and plug the spout back it still only jumps to about 22 BTDC and i pulled these code up today 12,53,44,75,77,25,34,42

The ECT could be the problem, it can greatly effect the air/fuel ratio which throws the tune way off when it quits working correctly. Replace it and report back.
12 is low idle 53 is tps voltage too high 44 is not a valid code 75 is not a valid code 77 is no goose 25 is no knock sensor 34 is no egr function 42 is 02 sensor reading rich (could be running rich, could be a faulty 02 sensor).

ok cool ill get one tomorrow but the knock sensor i know there hooked up and im getting 2.5 volts from the wire could they both be bad, and did a 87 2.3 tc motor come with a air charge temp sensor?

I suppose the knock sensors could be bad. I "think" they are tested by tapping on the intake with a hammer during the test though. Without doing so, it has nothing to check their function...
Yes, the 87 TC had an Air Charge Temp (ACT) sensor.

ok I went and got a new knock sensor today and scaned for codes again on my 79 with a 2.3tc motor and pull these codes now 21,25,34,75,77. I still dont no why its no detecting the knock sensor?

I said in the post above how the ecu tests the knock sensor during the test. If you don't tap on the intake, it won't detect any knock and say the sensor is bad.

Have you used our "setting base idle" tech article?

my bad stinger i read the post about the knock sensor completely wrong. i read the article and did everything it side but still not right i really think the tps sensor is bad. ill get back with you in a couple of days when i get the tps sensor replaced on the 79 and the ect sensor replaced on the 84 svo thanks for the help

Have you checked the TPS idle voltage? It is adjustable so it's pretty easy to set it back to .9-.95v so it reads correctly. You'll have to do the same thing if you buy a new one...
