I recently bought a 1979 factory turbo car and I want to convert it to efi. So I also bought a 1988 turbo thunderbird for parts. I know what I need to do to convert it except the wiring. I don't know what I need and what I don't and were they go. I have read the conversion write ups and I didn't know if they would work on a 79. If anyone could help let me know.

I know the fuel system needs upgraded that's not a big deal. I don't know fuel injection and computers very well my main concern is the wiring I don't know what I need to hook up. I'm not sure what all needs done with the wiring to make the car run. I'm used to carbs but thought I would try something new with going with injection.

I'd suggest picking up a harness out of an 83-86 turbo coupe or 87-90 2.3 Mustang. Then you basically drop it in, hook up a few grounds/power wires, add a few wires (for the Mustang harness only) and you're good to go.

My First 2.3 Turbo swap was an 86 mustang carbed 2.3. I used a 86 T bird harness and it was the easy. Like Stinger says just hook up a few wires and thats it.

What's the difference between a 86 turbocoupe and a 88 turbocoupe wiring harness because I have an 88 parts car. I wasn't sure if I could just hook up powers and grounds to what I got and it would work. I didnt think I would have to change pins in the computer plug.

The 88 has a ton of other extra crap integrated into the harness...ride control being a big portion of it. While it would "work" it would also be ugly, heavy, and have a ton of stuff not plugged in which makes it very difficult to figure out what you use/don't use if you ever pull the engine.

Are the computers the same in the 83-86 turbo coupe and 87-90 mustang as the 88 turbo coupe or will i need one from the car i get the harness from and all i need is the harness from the engine bay. I dont need the chassis harness right

No, the ecu's are not the same but the 87-88 TC ecu is almost a direct swap into an 87-90 Mustang. Just add wires for the air meter, mess with one other wire, and it's done.
You only need the chassis harness if you don't want to make your own wires for the fuel pump, fuel pump relay, etc.
