I'm in process of relocation my alternator on 1986 turbo coupe. Currently I have 1992 ranger alternator bracket and water pump pulley. I'm having trouble locating a crank pulley that has 2 ribs so I can run my power steering. What crank pulley has everyone been using? Also can I just press a serp pulley on my stock ps pump and leave it?

The factory serp 2.3 4 plug engines (87-88 Turbo Coupe, 87-90 Mustang) should have the crank pulley you need.
You should be able to press on the serp pulley.

I found some on eBay off of 93 2.3 mustang. Are they different than the 87-90?

Dual plug 2.3's have a crank trigger which spaces the pulleys out a little farther than the earlier ones. I'm not sure if they can be installed deeper without the crank trigger or not.

I see. So the pulley is very likely the same but the dis ignition uses a different balancer?

Not positive. It's been a long time since I looked at it. Seems like DIS style pulley bolted to a crank hub rather than sliding over crank like the earlier version. Like I said, I can't remember and don't have one here to look at. I do know the earlier version "just works".

Info from another 2.3t site on a ranger alternator swap:
Crank pulley donor: '83 - '88 Ranger or '87/8 Turbo Coupe (you can also use a '89 - '91 Ranger or '91 - '93 Mustang, but these are DIS engines so you'll have to get the ring gear that the pulley bolts to. These can often be rust-seized to the crank, but if you're considering a future DIS conversion, it might be worth the effort)
