I have a G-Pop rebuilt SVO turbo and a Gillis Boost controller. I am having issues setting the proper boost. When I took the wastegate rod off to re-build my engine, there was a lot of tension on the rod. When I re-installed it, I was able to do so with my hands( usually, I have to attach vice grips). Now, I have had to back the Gillis valve almost all the way out to lower the boost to 20 PSI! There is no way I could back it out enough to lower the boost to 15#!
Could the lower wastegate rod tension be causing this? What should the proper pull be to attach the rod?....1/4"?
At 7 turns I get well over 25!

Is it a different wastegate actuator then? Sounds like the actuator spring pressure is 15 or 20psi.
Proper pull on the rod is 1/8". More pull = more boost though as it preloads the spring more.

All G-Pop did was rebuild the turbo. I did not send them the actuator, so it is the stock one... Everything sat for a year, so I wonder if a Mud daubber or something got inside the wastegate port. I can use a Mighty Vac to test the spring opening pressure, right? Also, more pull would do the opposite of what I am encountering, correct?

I just tested the actuator with my hand pump. It starts to open at 10 PSI and fully open at 25 PSI.

Bypass the gillis and run hose straight to actuator. This should get you ~10psi and confirm actuator function while isolating the issue to the controller. If the vent hole for the controller is plugged it can cause weirdness.

I will remove both hoses and make sure they are not plugged in any way, and test as you suggest. The Gillis just has a ball and spring inside, correct?

Yes, a ball and spring and a tiny vent hole. I spray them out with carb or brake clean whenever something is acting weird.

We are back in business! I blew out both hoses, and bypassed the controller...three WOT pulls at 175kPa!...a little over 10 PSI Disassembled the controller and cleaned it out. Everything is back to working perfectly! 17PSI at about 1/2 travel on the controller. I will add the controller cleaning to my oil change maintenance list. Thanks, Shannon
