stinger i have a 1984 svo that i am building. it will be a daily driver and street/ weekend drag racer. is the 84 intake good with some work or should i look for a different one? the same goes for the exhaust manifold? if so which ones are best with or without porting?

They are pretty much equal as far as the intakes go. Exhaust manifolds are a different story, there are "E3" and "E6" versions. The E6 came in 86 and was a replacement for the crack prone E3. It also flows much better. They can be identified by the last two digits in the part number cast into them (as well as a few other ways).

thanks! should they both get ported. the 86 style intake looks like it flows more then the 84, is that true? i have time to look for both, unless u have them for sale.

They both flow similarly when ported and when stock, clearly porting increases flow for either one, though they won't increase hp a ton if the head doesn't flow as much as the intakes.
I've got a ported early style intake that came off my SVO that's also been modified for use with a 65mm tb.

The E6 manifolds definately benefit from porting.

stinger email me so we can talk about that intake! my e3 is stock and not cracked, should i just port that one or look for a e6 instead? which one will help out the most, i don't want to port the e3 if it is not worth it i will just look for a e6 if it better? i am sending the svo head to bo-port for a valve job and a stage 1 port and polish. i just want to do it once, and your advice is priceless! thanks

A ported E3 "might" flow as well as an E6 and will crack soon, definitely start with an E6.
You can see a few pics of the ported inline intake in the thread about my SVO on here in the customer cars section, first few pages show the silver inline intake. That is it. You can pm or email me if you are interested.
