I have got back into the 2.3T game after a 20 year absence with a '84 SVO retirement project. Engine is tired and smokes, wiring is brittle and patched. End goal is not a specific 'X' hp, but a reliable, enthusiastic driver. I do not wish to lose A/C or go the FMIC route but everything else is an option. If you have an outline, offer it up, I appreciate all opinions from those more current than I.

Stage 1: PM-65 harness, 3" free flowing exhaust, "x" ECU, 60 lb/hr injectors, braided oil lines, manual boost controller, cone filter, maybe a stage 1.5 cam. This should get you around 275hp at the wheels (basically double of stock).
Stage 2: all of the above plus 50 trim turbo, 255lph Walbro fuel pump, intake porting, 1.5 cam (if not purchased above), adjustable cam gear. This should get you to 325hp or so.
Stage 3: all of the above plus stage 3 head porting, 2.5 cam, water/meth injection (this would actually be beneficial at stage 2 as well since you don't want an FMIC), 80lb injectors. This should get you to 400hp or so.

Thank you, exactly what I was looking for. Stage 1 is what I want. While apart, would work on the head and/or intake help/hurt or no advantage. Does it matter which intake, inline or square?

The intakes flow similar in stock form. Square has aftermarket support (porting, rotating, different fuel rail, etc.) while the inline doesn't have any aftermarket support.
Head work can certainly help if done right. You've got to be careful about what you get done though because there are scenarios where you can get $600 or something wrapped up in just "freshening up" a stock head and you're basically half way to a fully ported head with not much to show for it. Do NOT let a shop grind the valve seats as they will just removing the factory hardening and shorten the life of the head significantly. Exhaust side needs hardened seats installed if they are doing a valve job. Springs are almost certainly shot and need replaced, and it's a good time to think about a cam upgrade while it's all apart and you're replacing most everything else anyway.
