Working on my race car. Old Ford Maverick 351w-based Dart block. Makes about 750hp give or take a few on straight methanol (injected/mechanical--NO EFI). naturally aspirated. I want to do a little different setup for spark. Currently it's just an old distributor and MSD 6AL box, the box is now dead after 30 something odd years and I want to update it to either EDIS or CNP. The problem is I cannot get much information for spark ONLY control (no fuel control), as to what controller I should use, should I use an EDIS setup, CNP, whatever. I have a trigger wheel mounted to the damper already, and a sensor on a bracket. But that's as far as I got. Original plan was a megajolt /e which uses a stock ford EDIS8 module. But the more research I was doing, I found out that the EDIS8 modules cut spark completely at about 6500 give or take. My converter stall speed is 6100 and I shift at 7400-ish, and take the finish line at 7600-7700. So EDIS8 stock module, if it's gonna cut spark at 6500 it would do me no good. Can we discuss options? Can PIMP/x do edis or cnp spark control only? Or should I be looking at another option?
I looked into MS3 but the many different settings for just spark are a little discouraging. Many have fought with it and I've not heard the results. This is a race-only car that has to be hauled to the drag strip to test, no dyno within about 300 miles or so to play with and the one that WAS local (now closed) won't touch an open-header race car because it was in a somewhat residential area. probably one reason they closed up shop. So I'd like to be able to screw something together and set a map, and run it-with minimal (if possible) "fiddling".
