Hi all. Whos got some real world experience with a 57 trim t04e garrett? Stage 3 and all that. Wondering the spool rpm range vs the 5) trim and hp numbers all that. Thanks

It will spool the same as a 50 trim (exact spool characteristics depend on the engine setup, vehicle weight, gear ratio, etc.). 57 trim is less efficient at high boost (north of 20psi) than the 50 trim and and the max boost is much lower for the 57 trim than the 50 trim. Max airflow is similar for both but the 50 trim is a better match since a 2.3 needs higher boost to flow the numbers the turbos can flow.

Ah i see. So then let me ask this... I was looking into 50 trim wheels housings and back plates so if i get this (which is a decent price) i can change later on if i want to. What i was reading, although i cant remember from where, was saying i need the housing wheel and a backplate for a t4 cartridge... I was under the impression t3 and t4 were more about the housing/wheel than the cartridge. Am i wrong? I know it would be t4 compressor side stuff, but the backplate mounting is different?

The backing plate is different because the compressor wheel diameter is different and the backing plate has a machined area in it that matches the compressor wheel diameter.
Have you priced out the wheel/housing/backing plate? I have a hard time believing you can come out ahead financially by trying to do what you're proposing. If the 57 trim is as cheap as it needs to be for this to make sense then the "cheap" turbo is almost certainly an offshore knockoff that's likely a POS.

Its $400. I know that the plate has to match the wheel on the wheel side.. I just want to be sure that that the mounting on the certridge side is the same. I cant recall the total price, but it was in the lower half of 300 for the housing wheel and back plate. That would make it say 750-800 about, and the 50 trim garrett with the 5 bolt discharge is 9 something right now.. My factory t3 blew seals and instead of rebuilding it since il need a bigger one hopefully in the near future if i can manage to get a head thats not cracked to bad, figured i would go ahead and just get it now and deal with the lag until i get the head built.. So itl only be 400 right now..Just my thoughts anyway, bout how much would the compressor side run you think? Oh and its a Garrett.

Hybrid turbos can be made with a t3 or t4 bearing housing.
