I'm just about ready to start tearing into the barn recovery 86 SVO. I'm looking at the Gnari manifold, what downpipe to you recommend? I want to run a 3" down to the OE style catback and will likely start catless until the car is right, then run a flowmaster universal converter.
I'll also be ordering your wing support too.

The Gnari manifold is a stock(ish) location manifold so it uses our stock location downpipe (S3DP).
Be aware that the Gnari manifold has been flow tested against the stock E6 manifold and the E6 flows better.

This probably true, but a good E6 is hard to come up with these days!

Can be for sure, I wasn't sure whether you already had one or not.

For some unknown reason my car showed up with all the correct casting numbers for an 86 but with an E3 manifold. I've heard rumor of 85.5 cars popping up with leftover E3s, but I can't imagine an 86 magically getting one installed in dearborn. I imagine it was a replacement or a cracked E6. I DID find a place in California that sells E6s for the mid $100 range. I've also heard that some fork lifts with propane 2.3 liters have E6s for some reason.

After this many years, there is no telling how many of the items on the car are original.

So the source I had come across for the E6 is no longer in the equation. There are a few stock turbo location style headers roaming around but what about the EGR? I've never messed with the EGR on an SVO as my old 86 had a ported E6. I know the EGR is part of the knock sensor system on these cars and as such is cheap insurance with old tech stustu things. Is it worth it to leave the E3 on the car or throw caution to the wind and do a header? I'd prefer an E6 or a Gnari, but $400 is tough to swallow for a lump of cast iron.

E6's are available. I see them on eBay, forums, FB groups, etc.
Do not use one of the Chinese stock location headers. They crack constantly.
The EGR system is not part of the knock sensor system, and the knock sensor should be unplugged anyway. After 35 years, they are prone to false knock readings and they pull a TON of timing which kills power during these false events.

I'm tempted by this specific Chinesium header solely because my buddy is a phenomenal welder and has offered up his services. It has to be better than the E3. I kick myself for giving away 2 mint E6 manifolds when I got out of 2.3 turbo stuff years ago.

It's not the welds that crack, it's where the weld meets the tube. So you weld up that crack and one forms at the edge of the new weld. It's due to poor quality SS and that the material is too thin for a turbo application.

I pulled the trigger on it out of morbid curiosity. maybe it lasts until I drum up a good E6. I just E3s are like exhaling through a straw for these cars. In other news, someone just got himself an order for a ported upper intake because I wasn't paying attention to the radius while porting mine.......
The car isn't far off from reassembly. It will go back together as stock minus the 3" downpipe, ported intake, egr delete and header. I'd be shocked if it made 200whp at stock boost that way. I'm going to leave it at stock boost until I feel like its been together long enough to seem reliable.
